In times of war, you don’t need a special drone to perform reconnaissance tasks. This is well illustrated by Ukrainian drone enthusiasts who use their equipment to locate Russian forces and assist their country’s military in the fight against invasion.

Regular commercial unmanned aircraft models lack some of the technical capabilities typically present in their fighter-oriented counterparts. They usually have less powerful motors, smaller batteries, and often less impressive optics. However, they can still fly in remote-control or fully automatic mode.
With some clever route planning, Ukrainian amateur UAV pilots successfully avoid dangerous locations and collect valuable intelligence data straight from the area. Watch the video below to see how it’s done:
